Makna Teologis Amanat Agung dan Implementasinya di Indonesia: Perlukah Pemaknaan Ulang?

Theologians generally agree that Jesus' command in Matthew 28:19-20 is a mission for God's people to reach and disciple those who do not yet believe. Discipleship is marked by a person's entry into the Christian community. This is what makes mission or evangelism considered the same as church planting. However, when discussing the implementation of this mandate in a pluralist country like Indonesia, calls emerge to reconstruct the mission from evangelism to dialogue between religious communities to maintain harmony and prevent friction with adherents of the majority religion. This research aims to examine why this happens and then answer the main question of whether this reinterpretation cannot be avoided. The research was carried out using descriptive analysis methods with a literature study approach. The author reviews various literature related to the topic and then analyzes it to produce descriptive and systematic thoughts. The conclusion is that we cannot separate the mission from the context. The majority of Indonesia's population is Muslim and they view evangelization as an effort to Christianize, a threat that needs to be guarded against and suppressed so that it often causes friction. Therefore, considering that believers also have an obligation as citizens to maintain harmony, reinterpretation cannot be avoided. However, we need to ensure that the reinterpretation does not change the essence of the mandate.
Para teolog umumnya sepakat bahwa perintah Yesus di dalam Matius 28:19-20 merupakan misi bagi umat Tuhan untuk menjangkau dan memuridkan mereka yang belum percaya. Pemuridan itu ditandai dengan masuknya seseorang dalam komunitas Kristen. Hal inilah yang kemudian menjadikan misi atau penginjilan dianggap sama dengan penanaman gereja. Namun, ketika membahas soal implementasi mandat tersebut di negara pluralis seperti Indonesia, muncul seruan untuk merekonstruksi misi dari penginjilan menjadi dialog antar umat beragama untuk memelihara kerukunan dan mencegah gesekan dengan pemeluk agama mayoritas. Penelitian ini bertujuan mengkaji mengapa hal itu terjadi untuk kemudian menjawab pertanyaan utama apakah memang pemaknaan ulang tersebut memang tidak dapat dihindari. Penelitian dilakukan dengan memakai metode deskriptif analisis dengan pendekatan studi literatur. Penulis mengkaji berbagai literatur terkait topik untuk kemudian dianalisis sehingga menghasilkan pemikiran yang bersifat deskriptif dan sistematis. Kesimpulan yang didapat adalah kita tidak dapat melepaskan misi dari konteks. Mayoritas penduduk Indonesia beragama Islam dan mereka memandang penginjilan sebagai upaya kristenisasi, ancaman yang perlu diwaspadai dan ditekan sehingga tak jarang menimbulkan gesekan. Oleh sebab itu, mengingat orang percaya juga memiliki kewajiban sebagai warga negara untuk menjaga kerukunan, maka pemaknaan ulang tidak dapat dihindari. Namun, kita perlu memastikan pemaknaan ulang itu tidak mengubah esensi amanat tersebut.
